New Room

Recently, I moved into a new apartment with two extremely talented photographers that I’m also lucky enough to call friends. Today, I finally finished unpacking and organizing all my stuff. As you can see from the photograph of my room below, I am a very minimalistic person. I am really excited about how much natural light this room gets in the morning.

P.S. Of course I had to represent England.

The portrait of an up-and-coming legend

This past week, I had the privilege to take portraits of an incredible athlete. Shane Tracy, is a BMX killing machine. The first time I met this man was while I was shooting another assignment for school. When I met him, he told me about how he wants to hold the world record for the worlds longest manual (a wheelie for the none action sports taking people). I thought to myself, “can this man even do a manual for any distance?” The next day, as I was driving down a very busy street, Shane goes flying past my car doing a manual and kept it going until he was out of sight. That certainly answered my question. After seeing him around town a few more times since the first time we met, we decided to do some awesome portraits of him with his bike. This was one of our favorites from that shoot.

July 4th

Last week held 2 big events. One event was the 4th of July. The other, which happened to fall on July 4th too, was my mom’s 50th birthday. Having this week of classes off made it easy to go see my family for her birthday. On the evening of the 4th, we all went to Raleigh, NC to have a good time at the 4th’s festivities. Walking around with so many people made for some great portraits, along with some other great photographs. This flag I photographed was massive. It was being hung from the top of a fire truck’s ladder.

Take time for yourself

During the summer semester at RCC, you quickly start to only photograph assignments for school with your time. This is due to the amount of work that is given since the semester is only 8 weeks long. After realizing that I hadn’t shot any photograph that I wanted to shoot in a long time, I took the time to go into the massive studio that RCC lets us use, and capture some portraits of my friend Justin. I have always enjoyed doing portraits of my friends. Having those moments of creativity and control really help motivate me to continue with the school work I have to work on.

Hands

I believe that you can tell a lot from a person’s hands. You can tell if that person does a lot of hard work,  or has a less intense lifestyle. While I was out photographing an assignment for school, I came across a man with some of the coolest hands I have seen in a long time. His name is Shane Tracey and he is a BMX rider. We started talking to one another and he told me that he rides his bike everywhere he goes. After talking to him for some time, as well as taking his portrait, I asked the strange request to photograph his hands. The reason for this photographic request is that I think you can see the miles he rides everyday in just his hands.

Chopper

As many people know, I really love motorcycles. I don’t know if it’s the danger that attracts me, or the thought of being that free. Either way, I love them. So when I see a beautiful motorcycle like this one, of course I had to photograph it.

Motivation

My favorite monkey always there to pump me up!

My favorite monkey always there to pump me up!

I like to wake up at 6am every morning, grab a cup of coffee, then hit the streets of Asheboro for some street photography. I love to watch the city wake up and start moving. However, walking around at 6am can sometimes make you feel tired and unmotivated. Luckily for me, my favorite monkey is always there to pump me up on those slow mornings. So if you are ever in the downtown Asheboro area early in the morning, feel free to stop me and say hey. If you’re lucky, you may even see me giving Asheboro’s coolest monkey a thumbs up.

Introducing myself

Morning coffee is a must!

Since this is my first post on a blog site, I figured I should introduce myself. My name is Nathan Richards and I am 22 years old. I am a Commercial Photography student at Randolph Community College in Asheboro, N.C. I have been taking photographs ever since I can remember using my Mom and Dad’s cameras. However, it was not until 2013 that I truly fell in love with Photography. I now have a camera of some sorts on me at times so I never miss a moment. My life is ever changing, but the one thing that stays unchanging is my love for coffee. Every morning, afternoon, and evening, you can find me drinking a type of coffee. Whether it is iced or hot, it will be in my hand. Enjoy!
